“given a chance
i wanna be somebody
if for one dance
i wanna be somebody
open the door
it’s gonna make you love me
facing the door
i wanna be somebody”
Listen to the drums in this song…amazing.
The point of this post is Thoughtful Thursday…whatever you do in life, be SOMEBODY. Not somebody else, be you. The greatest thing you can do in life is be yourself…and be the best self that you can be.
So this is possibly the longest blog post I’ve done in a while if not ever…but Kings of Leon released a new album! I’ve been wanting to do this post for a while, but I wanted to make sure I’d had plenty of time with the album to listen to all the songs a few times and to truly see how I feel about it!
Now Kings of Leon is very much an acquired taste…so if you don’t like it, I will not be surprised…but I really like them a lot. So many memories attached to every single one of their songs for me!
So here is my review edition of Kings of Leon new album: Come Around Sundown.
I’ve been following Kings of Leon for a few years now, and I love them. I’ve seen them live at Jazz Fest and their songs are really great. They have a unique sound and their lyrics are so indistinguishable that if your lips are making similar shapes as theirs, it at least LOOKS like you know the song and are singing along. You’ll see what I mean when you listen to some of the songs below. haha.
Their new album, however, does not seem so much revolutionary or evolutionary – it’s just…a new album. It’s also a bit more mellow overall in my opinion than their previous albums. No good songs to really dance to or yell out to like many of their other albums and songs. I think they had their work cut out for them in terms of trying to beat their previous album, Only By The Night, which was by far their most successful with huge hits like “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody.” But their older stuff, like their Albums Aha shake Heartbreak and Because of the Times are still my favorites. Probably because I’ve listened to them the most, but it sounds more CLASSIC KoL, and that’s what I like the most. I’ll put my favorite songs from their new album below, then I’ll put my all-time favorites, and you can tell the difference I’m talking about.
Come Around Sundown
“It’s in the water, It’s in the story of where you came from
Your sons and daughters in all their glory it’s gonna save her
And when they dance and come together, and start rising
Just drink the water where you came from, where you came from”
Happy Monday, everyone!!!! :D I hope you all have a GREAT week!
So…
I was first introduced to Milow when I heard his cover of Ayo Technology that is originally by 50Cent featuring Justin Timberlake (original HERE). There’s no doubt that, despite the insanely crazy & weird music video, I like Milow’s edition much more. Not to mention, 50Cent is a bonafideass. So yeah – here’s Ayo Technology by Milow:
The other day, I mentioned this song and someone informed that he is actually from Leuven (where I’m currently living in Belgium)! What a small world! So I downloaded his most recent album and I must say I LOVE THEM ALL!!!! The albums I bought: “The Bigger Picture” and “Coming of Age” – I really do love all the songs…
Here are my absolute favorites:
“Sometimes everything seems awkward and large
imagine a Wednesday evening in march
future and past at the same time”
“Hey, have you heard the radio news
They say that soon all hell will break loose Me, I am trying to do my part
But really changing the world seems so hard”
I hope you woke up with a smile this morning! Have a GREAT week!
the following songs are not necessarily upbeat by any means…but they are so poetic and gorgeous…just had to share them!
So please enjoy this edition of Music Monday – featuring Brandi Carlile:
“You see the smile that’s on my mouth
It’s hiding the words that don’t come out.
And all of my friends who think that I’m blessed…
They don’t know my head is a mess
No, they don’t know who I really am,
And they don’t know what I’ve been through like you do”
“I can feel the weight, I can just come clean
I keep it to myself, I know what it means
I can’t have you, but I have dreams”
“Look to the clock on the wall,
Hands hardly moving at all.
Can’t stand the state that I’m in
Sometimes it feels like the walls closing in”
